My Online Watercolor Course is NOW Available!

My new course, Watercolor Painting for Beginners, is now available online. This is where I teach how to paint realistic watercolors using traditional techniques.

I love to watch artists develop their watercolor skills and evolve as an artist!

This is something I’ve taught for years in a classroom setting, and now I’m bringing it online to help creative folks that live outside my little area.

Technology is great when it works, hee hee.

I’m very excited to get back to teaching this course!

There are a lot of different ways of painting with watercolors, which is one of the many reasons I love this paint medium so much.

My specialty is teaching others how to build realistic layers of paint with lots of detail to achieve a bright, vibrant glow in their paintings. I also help artists develop their skills to use their imagination to come up with their own original and realistic designs.

When it comes to learning these skills, I’ve found it best to teach them in three separate phases:

  • The Foundation
  • Watercolor Basics
  • Continuing Practices

These phases cover every aspect of learning how to create a watercolor, from the very beginning to advanced studies. Dividing up my program also allows the student to choose the area(s) they want to work on most in their own art.

Here’s a quick synopsis of these phases:

Phase 1: The Foundation

This phase actually has nothing to do with watercolor painting. It involves the prep work in drawing the layout of a watercolor painting.

Knowing how to draw accurately is very important if your goal is to paint realistic watercolors. There’s very little erasing or painting over a mistake when it comes to watercolors, which is why it’s necessary to know exactly where all your lines and shapes will go before you even paint.

I designed The Fundamentals of Drawing to help those who want to brush up on their drawing skills. The best part of this course is anyone can take it and learn how to draw accurately. There’s no talent required, and I explain why that is in the 1st Module which is FREE for anyone to watch!

Phase 2: Watercolor Basics

This is the phase where you learn all about the tools, materials, techniques, color mixing, and most important the strategy of painting with watercolors. This is what I teach in my Watercolor Painting for Beginners course.

Learning the ins and outs of watercolors is only half the battle in this course. The other half is learning how to combine these skills to created a watercolor from scratch. I walk you through step by step explaining how to combine techniques in four very different paintings.

After you’re done painting these compositions you’ll be ready to start flexing your creative muscles on any compositions you want to create!

Phase 3: Continuing Practices

Once you know how to preform all the different watercolor techniques, mix paint, and have a basic understand of how to strategize a painting, you’re then ready to practice it all with, guess what?

More painting!

This is when watercolors really start to get exciting because you get to explore how to use your new skills in compositions you pick to paint. I have a Watercolor Membership with a library filled of advanced painting courses for you to go through to continue honing your skills. This membership is something you can join after you go through Watercolor Painting for Beginners course.

With each new painting you create, you will further develop your own painting style, and before you know it, you’ll be creating your own original artwork!

What Phase Are You In?

Sometimes we learn how to draw and paint at different times, and not all necessarily in the proper order and that’s ok! What matters most is recognizing what you need to learn or work on to get you where you want to be with your art.
